These Victron Superpack batteries have a built-in BMS meaning they are simpler to install but not as versatile as the other batteries in the Victron range. For projects involving an alternator these kind of batteries don't work so well but for simpler projects they give you a quicker installation while still producing good performance. These batteries can be connected in parallel for greater capacity but can not be connected in series to give higher voltage

The internal BMS (Battery Management System) in these batteries means they will shut off in the event of overcharge or under discharge to protect the battery from damage. That's why they cant be used with an alternator, if the battery were to shut off it would fry the alternator.
